Torq
Launched in 2012, torq surfboards created a new standard in the epoxy surfboard market, offering an unmatched combination of strength and performance. Torq is now sold in over 50 countries, and the current product range includes over 40 different surfboard shapes in four different technologies and features colabs with Rusty Surfboards, Minvielle and Edouard Delpero and Channel Islands Surfboards, including the new M23 model.
When Torq was founded, surfboard manufacturing lagged far behind other composite industries. The hand shaping process and materials were developed in the 1950’s. While a number of people explored new techniques, in the main not much had changed in the 50 years until the 2000’s. Meanwhile the composites industry had moved on to exotic materials and process; biaxial fibers, pre-preg laminates, epoxy resins. Torq´s aim was to develop better, stronger, lighter and more affordable surfboards, using these new processes and materials.
In 2016 Channel Islands surfboards recognised the process and we developed a carbon enhanced version for a model colab: X-Lite, now with 3 CI models in the range. This includes the legendary PodMod, which is one of Channel Islands best-selling surfboards plus the new M23 and the Chancho.
These use the same super lean, super accurate process as TET – extremely low waste and powered by solar energy.
X-Lite mixes performance, strength, lightweight and incredible value.
Since 1985, Rusty Preisendorfer and his team of skilled shapers strive to refine the Rusty shapes and designs to the highest level of quality and performance. Rusty x Torq combines Rusty shapes and Torq technology to build the most advanced, high performing surfboards.
Rusty Preisendorfer: "This partnership opens a new chapter for Rusty Surfboards and Torq Surfboards. With our combined experience in shaping and board technology we aim to make the Rusty x Torq models the best boards on the market".
ISA World Longboard Champion 2025 and WSL Longboard Tour Vice World Champion Edouard Delpero and Torq have been working together successfully for several years. Torq has not only signed Edouard Delpero as a team rider, but has also developed its own Pro Signature series with 5 premium shapes together with his shaper Alain Minvielle.
Edouard Delpero: "One of the main reasons I wanted to develop a partnership with Torq Surfboards is pushing the limits of longboarding, getting barrelled, charging waves and not worry too much about breaking the magic board“.
Torq supports SeaForester in the reforestation of seaweed on the seabed. For every Torq surfboard sold, a donation goes to SeaForester - so that an algae can be planted, nurtured, and released into the ocean. Look out for this sticker on the boards.
SeaForester is an ecologically focused company dedicated to restoring the ‘forgotten forests’ of our oceans - creating vibrant, diverse ecosystems that benefit communities worldwide.
